Your First Visit
The purpose of your first visit is to get to know you, diagnose the underlying cause of your problem, and develop a personalized treatment plan that will quickly get you out of pain. Patients sit down privately with one of the chiropractors for a consultation that will help identify the cause of the problem and allow the chiropractors to understand your concerns and expectations. A thorough history will be taken on the injury and any related issues that you might also be having. Next your chiropractor will perform a detailed chiropractic examination that might include range of motion testing, palpation, posture or gait analysis, orthopedic or neurological tests, and in some cases x-rays. X-rays are only taken when it is medically necessary and are never mandatory.
Once all the examinations have concluded you will sit down with one of the doctors and receive a report of findings. Here the doctor will explain all of the exam findings, speak with you about possible causes of your injuries, give you recommendations for treatment, and explain to you your options. The doctor will also address any questions or concerns you might have about your x-rays, diagnosis, and treatments. Drs Collin and Alorna want to make sure you fully understand every step of your care process in the office. Patients will get a chance to go over their x-rays with the doctor and ask any questions. We have found that most of our patients can immediately identify their misalignments and imbalances and are very surprised to see what their spine looks like on x-ray. The doctors will then outline your specific treatment plan which may include a combination of chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, stretching, muscle work, and strengthening exercises. Your first visit to the chiropractor’s office is always the longest because of paperwork, exams, and consultations so expect it to last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. If you decide to receive care on the first visit, then it will last a little longer.
